Recreational marijuana use is not legal in Louisiana, but that is not stopping the state from ranking among the top 10 states for marijuana usage during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a national study.

Health site bodynutrition.org, using trends software with direct access to geotagged Twitter data, developed the rankings. The data is since March 1 and tracked tweets and hashtags about using marijuana, including phrases such as “smoke weed,” “get high,” and all related slang terms. Over 200,000 tweets were tracked.

Louisiana ranked fourth nationally. Michigan is No. 1 on the list, followed by Georgia and Texas. Hawaii rounds out the top five.
