University of Florida chosen to lead medical marijuana research – WCJB

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — The University of Florida will take part in statewide research on medical marijuana.

Florida’s Board of Governors chose the University of Florida to lead a group made up of public and private universities to study the health outcomes related to medical marijuana.

The University of Florida will receive $1.5 million from the state every year.

The research will focus on evaluating the safety and effectiveness of the drug, along with studying the effects of smoking medical marijuana versus other options.
